Worried about aging? If so, BEWARE of this food
Aging. It’s something that you cannot stop, but you sure can slow down if you do the right things. Likewise, do the wrong things, and you’ll be aging at a race car’s pace. Few people realize that what they eat on a day to day basis will have a profound influence on how they look moving forward.
This is all thanks to certain biochemical reactions that occur in your body whenever you eat certain types of foods. Some foods cause reactions that will reduce fine lines and wrinkles while enhancing your radiant glow. Others, on the other hand, promote fine lines and wrinkles while also damaging your body on the inside, which speeds up the aging process.
Has anyone ever told you their age and flabbergasted you that they were that young? Chances are, this person was not taking the right steps to prevent aging. If you don’t, it can happen very quickly. On the flip side, we’ve all seen those people who tell us their age and we can’t believe how old they really are. They look 10-20 years younger! These people are classic examples of those who are doing things right.
Here are some facts to know.
The Nasty Three Processes You Want To Avoid
If you are currently showing signs of aging, you can thank three different processes for causing this to occur. They include glycation, inflammation, and oxidation.
Remember, aging isn’t just the wrinkles on your skin or the fact that your hair is turning grey. While these are the obvious signs of aging, the far more serious ones are what’s happening inside the body to your organs and joints. These changes are what will have the greatest influence on your quality of life moving forward.
If you aren’t as mobile as you used to be because your bones struggle to support your weight or your heart is beating with an irregular rhythm, it’s clear to see how quickly this can become very worry some.
When asked, most people would be quick to say sugar and trans fats cause aging. Right now, these are the two ‘no-no’s, that almost everyone has been told about. Told they must avoid if they want to stay healthy.
And while that’s true, those two evils definitely must be avoided, they aren’t the number one food that’s causing aging.
Why?
Because people realize they should avoid them. While some can’t be bothered and still give into their cravings for cookies, cakes, pizza, and French fries, most know that these foods aren’t a wise choice.
The real problem is the food that everyone thinks is healthy, when really; it’s causing you to age faster than you’d ever want to believe…
The #1 Worst Food That Speed Up The Aging Process:
Wheat (yes, even ‘’Whole Wheat’’)
That’s right, that whole wheat slice of bread you ate this morning, thinking you were doing yourself a health favor is actually doing damage to your body right now.
Whole wheat (or plain wheat) foods will speed up the aging process due to the glycation process taking place. This is a process that produces substances that are called Advanced Glycation End Products or AGE’s for short. When these are present, your body is currently undergoing damage to your organs, joints, as well as your skin.
What makes them even worse is if you have elevated blood sugar levels. If you maintain levels higher than normal, as you will if you feast on processed foods made from wheat and/or sugar, you will accelerate the damaging effects that these AGE’s are having on your body.
To illustrate this point, take a good look at all of those who you know who suffer from type 2 diabetes. In most cases, you’ll quickly see that they look much older than their peers who do not have diabetes. This is thanks to the increased blood glucose level they have sustained throughout their life. Keep in mind that you do not have to have diabetes to suffer from these effects.
Another fact that few people know about wheat is that it contains a type of carbohydrate called Amylopectin-A, which is not found in any other foods. This carbohydrate will spike your blood glucose levels rapidly – even faster than pure sugar would. So when you feast on that sandwich on whole grain bread for lunch or had that whole wheat muffin for breakfast, you might as well be eating a slice of cake or a strudel in terms of the impact it’s going to have on your blood sugar level.
Any time you eat a carbohydrate source, you are going to get a spike to your blood sugar. This is normal and natural as the glucose breaks down. But, by choosing proper carbohydrate sources, the spike is far less dramatic. For instance, eating equivalent amounts of carbohydrates from either whole wheat bread or oatmeal, you’d see twice the spike after the whole wheat bread as you did the oatmeal.
The less blood sugar spikes you experience throughout the day, the less AGE’s impact you and thus, the slower you age.
Another big issue with whole wheat is the fact that it contains gluten. If you’ve done any reading about health before, you know very well that gluten is highly problematic and only leads to massive levels of inflammation in the body – another factor that speeds up aging.
And it gets even worse. If you choose to bake whole wheat, you’ll now produce a certain chemical called acrylamides, which care carcinogenic, so will set you up for cancer over the long term. These are found whenever wheat products have been browned. So for instance, breads, muffins, and cereals may all contain this harmful chemical.
Other ingredients that you’ll want to pay attention to in your diet that have a similar impact as wheat include any corn made products – corn cereals, corn chips, or corn syrup for instance. All of these will also spike blood glucose levels, leading to increased effects of AGE’s.
“So, what do I do next?”
Fortunately, all of this is preventable if you eat the right foods. In fact, by eating the right foods, you can actually combat AGE’s, inflammation, as well as acrylamides so that you can undo some of the damage that has already been done.
